Walking
Walking is a great way to have time to yourself and gives you more energy to do the things you enjoy in life. During the working day, it can also help you to unwind and make plans and avoid the stress of traffic jams.
Durham University spreads across the City providing lots of opportunity to explore this historic area on foot and also enable you to commute to the University from across the City. Durham University's Mountjoy Site (Science Site) is central to University life. With the Bill Bryson Library close by, walking journeys are popular here.
As part of our Estate Masterplan, the University recently (Summer 2021) invested over £6 million on a new infrastructure improvements project to assist safe movement for staff, students and visitors around our Estate with a new pedestrian and cycle route between our hill college residences and university buildings.
There are many local walks from the University Campus, for example take a self-guided walk in our beautiful the Botanic Garden or walk around our mature woodlands or take a stroll from the University to the Wicker Man at Low Burnhall Woods (Woodlands Trust).
There are many events and guided walks also within the Durham area and further information is available on the Durham County Council website.
