Collingwood has launched Collingwood Future, a new college-based student development programme helping students across all degree subjects explore artificial intelligence, ethics and leadership.

The opening event took place on Tuesday, 20 October in the Penthouse Rooms where Durham’s Professor Noura al Moubayed led a conversation titled 'AI: "It’s not a bug, it’s a feature" and other lies we tell ourselves'. Chaired by College Principal Professor Thom Brooks, the event was followed by a networking drinks reception.
Collingwood Future offers students opportunities to develop their understanding of AI and consider how to use it responsibly in their studies, future careers and wider lives. No previous knowledge is required: the programme welcomes students from every academic discipline, bringing different perspectives to questions about technology and its impact.
Students can attend as many or as few events as they wish. Those who attend at least two events during the year and produce a short poster explaining how they will apply their learning to their future studies or career can earn a certificate and become a Collingwood Future Fellow. This recognition can be included on their CV and LinkedIn profile.
Professor Thom Brooks said: 'AI is raising questions that matter across every subject and career. Collingwood Future gives our students an opportunity to explore those questions together, develop their judgement and think about what responsible leadership means as technology changes. You don’t need a technical background to take part, only curiosity'.
The next Collingwood Future event takes place on 17 November, with further details to follow.
