A group of Grey and Macau students in Macau

Grey students build international friendships and cultural connections through exchange visits to Macau and Hong Kong.

Grey College students and staff recently returned from a highly successful Cultural Exchange Programme in Macau and Hong Kong, which took place from 22–29 March 2026, in partnership with University of Macau, Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College and Lee Woo Sing College.

The week-long programme brought together students, fellows and staff for a varied programme of academic, cultural and social activities designed to strengthen international friendships and deepen cultural understanding.

Delegates enjoyed campus tours, student symposiums, workshops and formal dinners, alongside opportunities to explore the rich history and culture of both Macau and Hong Kong. Highlights included a visit to the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macau, Tai Chi and Portuguese tile workshops, a Lion and Dragon Dance performance, and a cultural tour of Hong Kong led by student hosts from Lee Woo Sing College.

Grey fellows and student delegates also delivered a number of talks and workshops throughout the visit, covering subjects including British literature, residential college life and the history of railways in North East England. The programme concluded with exchange activities at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and attendance at the annual concert of Lee Woo Sing College.

The exchange was made possible in part through the generous support of Grey College alumni and donors, whose contributions continue to create opportunities for students to participate in international experiences beyond the classroom. Their support helps ensure that programmes such as this remain accessible and enriching for future generations of Grey students.
