John Snow College is on the Mount Oswald site in Durham City. The College is staffed 24/7 and has 24/7 security. The College is close to the main teaching and learning facilities of the University including the main Bill Bryson Library. Most 1st year undergraduate students live in College, alongside around 40 postgraduate masters students. The College's role is to provide a friendly, safe and stimulating environment for your degree studies at Durham University.
Underpinning this is our belief at John Snow College that University education is about the opening of doors and the exploration of new ideas, and that the College itself can add an extra dimension to the Department-based learning involved in your degree programme. We are a supportive and pro-active community that strives to get the best from our students. Alongside your academic studies, we present a plethora of opportunity to develop your personal transferable skills and your sporting, musical and/or acting talents. We actively encourage our students to get involved with our local community through volunteering and charity work and enjoy being part of this beautiful, historic city.
