Welcome to John Snow College!
Congratulations on your place at Durham University and a huge welcome to John Snow College!
As I prepare for my year as Principal of John Snow, I'm especially excited to be welcoming a new cohort of students. We'll be starting a part of our Snow journeys together, and I can't wait to meet you all and see what we'll achieve as a community.
Starting university is a really exciting moment, and I’m delighted that you've chosen to begin that journey with us. Whether you're moving across the country from over seas or just down the road, whether you’re living in college or somewhere else you're about to become part of a friendly, supportive and vibrant community that I hope will quickly feel like home.
One of the things that makes Snow so special is the incredible range of opportunities available to get involved. From sports teams and societies to volunteering, leadership roles and social events, there’s something for everyone. Whether you're keen to try something completely new or continue a passion you've already discovered, you'll find plenty of ways to make friends, develop new skills and make the most of your time here.
Most importantly, John Snow is a community shaped by its students. The energy, enthusiasm and generosity of our students create the welcoming atmosphere that defines the College, and I can't wait to see the contributions that this new generation of Snow students will bring.
This is a particularly exciting time to be joining the College, and I am looking forward to welcoming you all to Snow, hearing your stories, and seeing you make the most of everything Durham has to offer.
I can't wait to meet you all in person.
Dr. Ruth Wilson
Associate Principal, John Snow College
I'm Alex and I'm your JCR President for 2026/27. My job is to ensure that the Junior Common Room (JCR) runs smoothly and to support the JCR Committee in their respective roles whether that be for sports, societies, events and much more. I want to ensure that your time at John Snow is full of fun and happy memories. My favourite thing about Snow are the amazing events that are held throughout the year such as the gowned formals, winter and summer ball, Spring Soirée, and Snow Day. They're always so much fun and a great way to bring the college together.
We've designed the timetable to ensure College events don’t clash with any of your academic commitments. It’s packed with opportunities to meet fellow Freshers, explore your surroundings, and settle into student life.
