Q & A tile

John Snow College Intern (Jan 2025- Summer 2025)

Caitlin very kindly agreed to be interviewed by us at John Snow so that we could share a little insight into the role of the college intern and her thoughts about her time working for us.

Student at Graduation

Q1.Caitlin- Why did you apply for the Internship at John Snow College?

Answer: It felt like an accessible way to build experience in marketing and communications, while also being more involved in college life. I liked that I’d be working on projects that mattered to people I knew and studied alongside, played sports with, and ran societies with.

Q2.  And what did this internship offer that felt different from other opportunities?

Answer: Many marketing internships are structured around full-time summer work or short, intensive placements, which aren’t always financially or logistically feasible. Before this role, that made the industry feel quite distant to me, particularly as someone who didn’t live within commuting distance of a major city. Having an internship based in college made the marketing industry feel more accessible, as I could build experience without relocating or putting my studies and wider university commitments on hold.

Q3. How did you find doing an internship alongside your degree, sports, and societies?

Answer: The role felt very manageable alongside my degree because it was designed to fit around student life rather than replace it. Balancing the internship with studies and involvement in other college- or university-wide activities made the experience realistic and sustainable.

Q4. Was there anything that surprised you about working within the College team?

Answer: I was genuinely struck by how welcoming and supportive the staff were, especially in the way they took time to listen to students and help resolve everyday issues. Witnessing how their care influenced the college’s communication and support for students made the work feel meaningful.

Q5.  How has this internship supported your employability or next steps?

Answer: It gave me something concrete to talk about alongside my interest in marketing, rather than relying solely on enthusiasm. When job applications are so competitive, being able to point directly to experience helped me feel much more confident.

Q6. And finally, what advice would you give to students wanting to apply?

Answer: Show your zest for marketing! This is an opportunity to gain experience, so don’t be shy about asking questions. If there’s something you’re curious about or want to learn, just ask the team! Remember, internships are learning-focused positions that are designed to help you grow, with hands.

Thanks to Caitlin for answering our questions. She was a joy to work with and whilst we still miss her we wish her the very best in her new Marketing role since graduating this year.
