College is more than just lectures and deadlines — it’s about community, creativity, and finding the things that make you you. At John Snow, our sports teams and societies are at the heart of college life, offering you the chance to meet new people, try something different, and have a lot of fun along the way.
With over 30 student-run societies at Snow, there’s something for everyone, from serious interests to pure fun and games. Whether you’re passionate about sustainability, into performing arts, or just fancy a weekly games night, our societies are open, free, inclusive, and shaped by you.
Want to go further? You can get involved at any level, from casual member to president, and if you spot a gap, why not start your own society? Mid-year tasters and welcome socials also make it easy to join in whenever you’re ready.
Societies also run fantastic events throughout the year, from karaoke nights and bar crawls to bake sales and charity drives. Follow @snow.societies on Instagram to stay updated, and don’t miss the Freshers’ Fair for a chance to meet them all (and grab some freebies too).
Whether you’re a seasoned player or a total beginner, sport at Snow is welcoming, low-pressure, and a brilliant way to destress. Durham has the highest student sport participation in the UK, and Snow proudly plays its part in that.
College sports are all about fun, friendship, and flexibility. Our teams cater for all abilities, and you’ll compete against other colleges in casual leagues, or turn up to training and get stuck in socially. Look out for big moments like our Hill vs Bailey rugby match or the Durham Regatta, where you can represent Snow with pride.
Follow @johnsnowsport for updates, taster sessions, and training information, and be sure to visit the Sports Fair to chat with team captains and give something new a try.
