What is the Leadership Academy?

The Durham University Leadership Academy is a transformative and highly competitive, one-year programme designed to support student leaders in their leadership role whilst at University through developing key leadership networks and competencies.

For accomplished student leaders who aspire to shape their team, community and University as the leaders of tomorrow! Members of the academy are provided with the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse network of senior global leaders and student leaders whilst taking part in a diverse programme of events.

Leadership Academy members can benefit from:

  • 1:1 personalised mentoring from global leaders and alumni to aid the personal, professional and leadership development.
  • A range of Speaker Series and interactive workshops with topics covering: An introduction to Leadership, Mental health for student leaders, Accountability, Managing teams and conflict, Negotiation, Inclusive Leadership, Cultural intelligence, Entrepreneurship, Change Management, Growth Mindset and more!
  • Residential overnight stay, providing an opportunity to develop key leadership skills and network with other student leaders on the programme. (11-13 October 2024).
  • Access to our Online Toolkit, where we have a variety of online leadership modules, videos and resources.
  • Networking events with global and student leaders, hosted in London and Durham.
  • Interactive Think Tanks, which provide a regular space for student leaders and alumni that encourages a forum of discussion on current issues. In our latest Think Tank, we discussed the importance of fostering an inclusive culture within your team.
  • Certificate of accomplishment and reflection for student leaders who have engaged, reflected and demonstrated growth as a leader.

Eligibility

As part of the wider Leadership framework, we have several programmes that are tailored for all levels of leadership. The Leadership Academy is specifically designed for students who hold a leadership position either within the University or local community.

Undergraduates in their second year and above and Postgraduates can apply for a space on the Leadership Academy.

We run regular events for our Leadership Academy students, including opportunities to travel to London and our annual residential weekend. Please note, that this is funded by the Leadership Framework and taking part in the programme will be at no cost to members.
