Our Michaelmas concert will take you on a tour of Europe with a programme of music celebrating national identity. Sibelius’ Finlandia and Smetana’s Vltava are tone poems which evoke vast and majestic landscapes as symbols of national pride. We will also play Holmes’ Irlande, another symphonic poem which calls for political freedom. Our concert will conclude with Borodin’s Second Symphony, generally regarded as his best work and a foundation stone of the Russian symphonic sound as it weaves elements of Russian folklore with Western Romanticism.

Performance

This concert will begin at 7.30pm and end at 9.10pm, with a 20-minute interval. Doors will open 30 minutes before the start of the performance.
