China Scholarship Council (CSC) Funding

The department has been successful in numerous PhD funding applications to the China Scholarship Council-Durham Scholarships. 

The CSC is open to PhD candidates from mainland China, who are nominated by the departments and faculties to which they have applied.

Deadline for applications to the department is 23:59 on 15 January 2024.

The application process has several stages:

  1. Submit your application to the department and indicate you wish to be considered for nomination for a CSC award by selecting 'other' from the drop-down menu for funding and inserting China Scholarship Council - Durham Joint Award in the text box).
  2. Your application to the PGR programme will be considered and you will also be put forward to be considered by the scholarships committee in department.
  3. Up to six highly-ranked candidates will be nominated to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health in January, who then do a second selection and nominate candidates to the International Office of the University in February.
  4. Successful nominees will be notified in March, to make a separate application to the CSC scheme, using the CSC application system when it opens (normally March).
  5. The CSC Scheme will notify successful applicants in around June.
