Graham Earp Scholarship in Sustainability and the IHRR Scholarship in Risk

Summary 

The Graham Earp Scholarship in Sustainability and the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience Donor-Funded Scholarship in Risk are an invitation to international students to achieve excellence at Durham. 

The Graham Earp Scholarship in Sustainability is available for students applying to study any of the following programmes: 

  • MSc Cities and Sustainable Futures 
  • MSc Climate Change, Environmental Processes and Sustainable Futures 
  • MSc Climate Change, Society and Sustainable Futures 

The Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience Donor-Funded Scholarship in Risk is available for students applying to study any of the following programmes: 

  • MA/MSc Climate, Risk and Society 
  • MA Risk, Security and Politics 
  • MSc Environmental Hazards and Risk 

Each scholarship is a competitive award worth £7000 in tuition fee discount towards the original tuition fee for a MA/MSc programme in the Geography Department starting in September 2026 (we will award up to three scholarships per scheme).  Students may study full- or part-time (in-person) with their first year of entry in September 2026. 

Selection for these scholarships will be based on an individual’s achievements and potential for positive impact on completion of a postgraduate degree in the Geography Department, Durham University. 

The scholarships are available to all new international students to Durham who meet the eligibility criteria. 

Please ensure that you have submitted an academic application, with all required supporting documents, via the postgraduate online application portal before applying for one of these scholarships. 

 

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for either of the Geography Department or Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience scholarships, applicants must: 

  • have applied to an (in-person) taught MSc or MA in the Geography Department as listed above. 
  • start postgraduate studies at Durham University in September 2026. 
  • be classed as an overseas student for fee-paying purposes. 
  • be self-funded and not already in receipt of any other scholarship, funding or sponsorship, 
  • meet or exceed the entry requirements for the programme applied for at Durham University 
  • complete the Geography/Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience scholarships application form (link below). 

How to apply 

  1.  Apply for an eligible postgraduate programme via Durham’s Applicant Portal 

To apply for a Geography or Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience Scholarship you must provide a valid student ID, which is generated once you have submitted a complete postgraduate programme application. 

However you are not required to hold an academic offer at the time of your scholarship application. 

  1.  Complete and submit the scholarship application form by 31st March 2026
