Student Life

Our students are active across the university and within the wider community. The Durham University Geography Society - affectionately known as DUGS - is one of the oldest in the university and organises events to all different tastes. It starts with a warm welcome to all freshers joining the department and continues throughout the year, from special guest speakers and career talks to hikes, barbeques on the beach and film nights.

Your time at Durham will also be enriched by life in your college. There, and in the wider university, you’ll find opportunities for connecting with people who will be friends long after you graduate with stories about sport, music, theatre, or volunteering with local organisations. Just as important, we offer a range of support so that your studies at Durham are balanced, healthy, and rewarding.

Widening Participation

Going to university is a major decision, and we are dedicated to supporting applicants from minority backgrounds, or who are among the first in their family to go to university.
