Rights to Non-human Animals: Philosophical Justifications and Legal Perspectives in Dialogue
This interdisciplinary event brings together leading scholars in philosophy and law to explore the evolving discourse on the rights of non-human animals. Hosted by Durham University’s Law School and the Durham Centre for Law and Philosophy, the event features four panels that examine both philosophical foundations and legal frameworks for animal rights.
The event is comprised of four panels:
Panel I: Philosophical Approaches Part 1 will be chaired by Päivi Neuvonen, Co-Director of the Durham Centre for Law and Philosophy and will feature Alasdair Cochrane (University of Sheffield), Raffael Fasel (University of Cambridge), and Elisa Aaltola (University of Turku) as speakers.
Panel II: Philosophical Approaches Part 2 will be chaired by Leeds Beckett University's Rachel Dunn and will feature Joshua Jowitt (Newcastle University), Benedict Douglas (Durham University), Clair Linzey (University of Oxford), and Sergio Dellavalle (University of Turin and Durham Law School) as speakers.
Panel III: Legal Perspectives Part 1 will be chaired by Durham University's Benedict Douglas and will feature John Adenitire (Queen Mary University of London), Visa Kurki (University of Helsinki), Jérôme de Hemptinne (Utrecht University), and Jochen von Bernstorff (University of Tübingen), as speakers.
Panel IV: Legal Perspectives Part 2 will be chaired by Joshua Jowitt and will feature Dara Eisen (Durham University), Debbie Rook, (Northumbria University) and Rachel Dunn (Leeds Beckett University) as speakers.
