Durham Law School is delighted to announce that Durham Law Careers Week, starting Monday, 5th October, organised by Durham University’s Careers & Enterprise Service, was a resounding success.
Organisations represented at the Law Careers Fair, held on Wednesday of that week, included one of the leading international commercial disputes sets, Quadrant Chambers, and more than 35 law firms attended.
The law firms attending included:
leading London headquartered international law firms,
leading US headquartered international law firms with London offices, and
leading law firms headquartered in the North East (or with offices in the North East).
Representatives of more than 35 law firms were at stands at the Law Careers Fair held in the University’s Teaching and Learning Centre, including Durham alumni from many of those firms. In addition, other law firm on campus events took place in Law Careers week, with more on campus law firm visits scheduled later in the term; in the month of October alone, 4 of the 5 magic circle law firms have been on campus or will have been on campus by the end of the month.
Simon Brandwood, Director of Careers & Enterprise, said:
“We are delighted with the feedback received following the Law Fair. Employers and students found the event to be insightful, informative and a great way to network for either the identification of top talent, or the opportunity to gain insight and access to the very best of Law firms. Over 1,100 students attended and firms expressed pleasure in both the quality and calibre of our students”.
Gavin Cheung, President of the Durham University student Law Society added:
"We are pleased to have welcomed over 35 law firms and supporting organisations to Durham University, reflecting our strong employability efforts and outcomes. Durham Law Society is also grateful to our sponsoring firms for partnering with us to host campus spotlight events throughout the week, including presentations and dinners. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and strong interest from Durham students, and we look forward to building on this momentum through our upcoming events."
Philip Bennett, the Law School’s Director of Employability and its first Professor in Practice, commented:
“Yet again, a tremendous turnout of law firms during Law Careers Week shows how attractive Durham students are to leading law firms in recruiting their future trainees. A big thank you to Quadrant Chambers, to all of law firms and to all of the other organisations who participated in Law Careers Week. My congratulations to Simon Brandwood and his team for organising such a successful event.”
