MLAC celebrates Dantedì with national press recognition for Dr Lorenzo dell’Oso
Each year on 25 March, Italy celebrates Dantedì, the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri, widely regarded as the father of the Italian language. The date is symbolically linked to the beginning of Dante’s journey in the Divine Comedy and has become an important occasion to reflect on his enduring cultural legacy.
In the lead-up to this year’s celebrations, the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University is delighted to share that Dr Lorenzo dell’Oso has received significant recognition in the Italian national press. On 23 March, the leading Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera published an extensive and unexpected review of his recent book, Il poeta “alle scuole delli religiosi” (published by Carocci Editore).
The review, written by prominent literary critic Paolo Di Stefano, highlights the originality and scholarly contribution of Dr dell’Oso’s work, which explores Dante’s formative educational experiences and their influence on his literary production.
Founded in 1876, Corriere della Sera is one of Italy’s most prestigious and widely read newspapers, making this recognition a notable achievement and a testament to the international impact of research carried out within MLAC.
This acknowledgement comes at a particularly fitting moment, as MLAC joins institutions across Italy and beyond in celebrating Dantedì and reaffirming the relevance of Dante’s work in contemporary scholarship and culture.
