A head shot of a man in glasses

Ardi Echevarría, a third-year PhD student in the Department of Music, has been awarded the TAGS Prize for the best student presentation at this year’s Theory and Analysis Graduate Students Conference, hosted by the Society for Music Analysis at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Ardi’s paper, “Mendelssohn’s New Development Themes and their Reappearances,” introduced a fresh perspective on nineteenth-century form by theorising the concept of recapitulatory expansion to account for Mendelssohn’s distinctive treatment of new material in sonata-form movements.

Ardi is supervised by Professor Julian Horton and Dr Katherine Hambridge, and their research focuses on nineteenth-century musical form and analysis.
