A colourful circular artwork

A thirty-minute animated film accompanying Durham composer Richard Rijnvos's Aphrodite for shō & string sextet (2022–23) is showing throughout March as part of Moments of Wonder, a new exhibition by Mike Collier at Vane gallery in Gateshead. Rijnvos will be present for a special screening on Wednesday 4 March at 4.30pm, ahead of the exhibition's opening preview.

The animation, created by Collier in collaboration with artist Tom Jordan and animator Nora Nadvegi, draws on imagery inspired by classical Persian poetry to accompany Rijnvos's composition — the fourth part of Kosmoscópio, in which each of the nine Musica Universalis components is depicted in a musical composition. The exhibition runs from 5–28 March and brings together Collier's work across print, painting, Perspex collage, LED, and animation, much of it rooted in close observation of the natural world.
