The Department of Music at Durham invites applications from UK and international applicants for PhD studentships through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership. Internal Deadline: Friday 6 December 2024 (5 pm)

To maximise the strength of the applications, we always run an internal process to evaluate the candidates and proposal for feedback purposes. This application a close variant of the actual application where the candidate and the supervisor need to fill the four areas (CV, Research Proposal, Supervision, Training & Development & Research Environment). The form is available here.

External Application Deadline: Tuesday 7 January 2025 (5 pm)

The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers high-quality supervision and exceptional resources, as well as the expertise of a broad portfolio of Strategic Partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers. The awards cover tuition fees (at a rate equivalent to the UK Home Fee) and include a maintenance stipend.

We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project. Prospective applicants should discuss their project with potential supervisors before submitting an application, and are also warmly encouraged to contact the department’s Director of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Tuomas Eerola, with enquiries about the application process and/or the PhD programme at Durham.

For information about the scheme and detailed guidance notes, see the Northern Bridge studentship website.
