Professor Stuart Corbridge

This summer almost 5,000 of our students from 90 countries around the world, graduate and join our international alumni community, with degrees conferred virtually.

As we are unable to celebrate graduation with our students in the traditional way, due to ongoing Covid restrictions, we are marking the conferral of degrees virtually, with the production of a special video for the occasion. The official conferral ceremony and congratulation messages from both the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor have been filmed and are now available to view online. We are encouraging our graduates to gather with loved ones and celebrate, no matter where they are in the world.

The in absentia conferral is an opportunity for everyone to join in celebrating the success of our students in reaching this milestone, an event made even more special given the challenges that the past 16 months delivered for our staff, students and graduates.

Inspiring achievements

Our students have inspired us more than ever over the past 16 months, pursuing academic excellence and embracing the wider student experience at Durham, whether that be participating in sport, the arts and culture or volunteering, in creative and inventive ways.

During such unprecedented times, their achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication to their years of study and growth.

Global community

Our graduating students are joining a global alumni community of 200,000-strong. Their relationship with Durham doesn’t end at graduation – it's a lifelong journey with continued support from us here at Durham, and from each other, wherever they go.

Our alumni demonstrate the value of Durham’s inspirational education and student experience, in their many, varied achievements. And their relationship with Durham lives on in the friendships and connections that began here and continue to endure in what is a global community of extraordinary Durham people.

Share your celebration with us

We're all looking forward to celebrating together once Covid-19 restrictions ease, but in the meantime, we're asking our graduates to share their own celebrations with us on social media using the hashtags #DUGraduate and #DUinspire.

Heartfelt and huge congratulations to our graduates and we wish you every success for the future.
