On 17th November 2021, we were thrilled to host the 2021 Teaching and Learning Awards to celebrate excellence.
Colleagues nominated peers from across the University, generating over 100 entries – providing a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge those that have gone above and beyond in the roles to support teaching and learning.
Hosted by Prof. Alan Houston, Vice-Provost Education, the hybrid ceremony shone a light on the outstanding work taking place:
Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award – awarded to Dr Alison McManus of DCAD in recognition of her support for Foundation Students from the Arts and Humanities Faculty, including her innovative work with Durham University Museums.
Excellence in Student Academic Support Award – awarded to Dr Alistair Brown for his vast range of work supporting students, particularly with the move to online, in English Studies.
Excellence in Research Student Supervision Award – awarded to Prof Paul Langley from the Department of Geography for his superb holistic approach to supervision and adapting this approach during Covid-19.
Unsung Hero of Teaching and Learning Award – awarded to Dr Gillian Campling from the Department of Biosciences for her innovative work in supporting students for the past 20 years from book clubs to dog walking classes!
Most Impactful Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award – awarded to Dr David Petts for his work developing innovative new forms of assessment in Archaeology using social media.
A further award was also given to Dr Mathilde Roger, in recognition of her exceptional work in an exceptional year, having a profound impact across all faculties and within their own department. Dr Roger has made an amazing contribution moving the University online and adapting to Blackboard Ultra both within her department, within her faculty and across the institution.
