Miranda by Ooook! Productions

Prepare for an evening of ‘such fun’, as Ooook! Productions present a brand-new stage show, based on hit BBC comedy ‘Miranda’ in aid of charity. The student theatre company are producing the show with the approval of writer and comedian Miranda Hart and the BBC, at Durham’s The Assembly Rooms Theatre, from Thursday 9 – Saturday 11 December. Proceeds will go to local mental health charity ASTRIID.

The play follows the popular comedy character Miranda, as she tackles the trials and tribulations of a thirty something single woman. It doesn’t matter what Miranda attempts in life, whether it is dating or simply dealing with her overbearing mother, she always seems to encounter some difficulties, and fall flat- quite literally! Miranda is all about freely and uniquely being herself, she gallops and never runs, puts fun above all else and constantly finds herself in hilarious, compromising situations.

Worth the wait

Written and directed by student Ella Al-Khalil Coyle, who explains; “The show has taken two years to make it onto the stage, due to lockdowns and the Covid pandemic providing setbacks. The cast and crew have taken the challenges in their stride, using the time to refine the script and rehearse to deliver a fun performance that comedy fans will enjoy”.

Sustainable scenery

Stage designer Anna Hayward, has risen to the challenge of re-creating the familiar sets and locations from the TV show on stage. This production team have also worked hard to ensure that ‘Miranda’ is unique in terms of sustainability, repurposing sets and props from previous plays, as well as using second hand/borrowed costumes.

Enjoy the show!
