Prof Petra Minnerop to Strengthen Collaboration with CIL, NUS During October Visit

During the visit, Prof Petra will engage with CIL researchers, participate in a series of academic, policy and stakeholder engagement events focusing on climate governance, international environmental law and the carbon markets. 

The programme includes a distinguished public lecture titled "Legal and Scientific (Un)certainties 10 Years After the Paris Agreement.” The lecture will explore how the Paris Agreement is being implemented by Parties according to their latest nationally determined contributions (NDC 3.0). These NDC 3.0 must communicate national climate targets spanning a period until 2035, and they must be more ambitious and informed by the outcomes of the first global stocktake. The lecture will present research findings on NDC analysis resulting from the British Academy funded project, ELEVATE Pro-Clima and discuss legal obligations under the Paris Agreement following international climate adjudication.

Events will include a research-focused session with CIL colleagues exploring opportunities for research collaboration, and participation in a high-level dialogue on Article 6 carbon markets hosted jointly by CIL and the Singapore branch of the International Law Association.

Petra will also meet with Singapore government officials in a closed-door session on carbon credit accounting and carbon market governance, organised by CIL, the Singapore Attorney-General's Chambers and MTI Academy.

The visit reflects the close relationship between CSDLP and CIL, which share a commitment to advancing research and policy engagement on climate change, sustainability and the implementation of international environmental law. Beyond this visit, the two centres collaborate across a range of initiatives, including the development and delivery of the Climate Change E-Academy, joint conferences, webinars, and faculty visits and exchanges. 

CIL and CSDLP are also continuing to explore opportunities for joint engagement at major international policy forums, including side events and stakeholder activities across the ASEAN, linked to COP31. By bringing together expertise from Europe and Asia, the partnership contributes to informed debate on climate law and policy while supporting practical solutions to complex global sustainability challenges.

Prof Minnerop's visit will provide an important opportunity to deepen existing collaborations, develop new areas of joint research and policy engagement, and strengthen the longstanding relationship between Durham University and the Centre for International Law at NUS
