Neurodiversity-Curious Durham Scoping Event
We are running a 'neurodiversity-curious' scoping event for all Durham University staff interested in the emergent field of critical neurodiversity studies on Wednesday 13th November 2-4pm in Earth Sciences 231. This event is part of the 24/25 Critical Neurodiversity Studies Takeover of the Measurement Lab in the Discovery Research Platform hosted by the Institute for Medical Humanities.
Organised by Louise Creechan and Robert Chapman, Measurement Lab co-leads, and facilitated by Bentley Crudgington, the afternoon will be an opportunity to connect with other scholars interested in neurodiversity from across disciplines, plan for future collaborations, and learn more about the current research being done in this field at Durham. We are keen to engage with other researchers thinking about neurodiversity through the arts, humanities, and social sciences - or, those who would like to! We are particularly committed to approaches that reject or disrupt biomedical paradigms.
The workshop will be run as a 'relaxed workshop' (borrowed from accessible theatre); this means that attendees will be encouraged to participate as they need, e.g. communication via writing, to move around the space, to wear headphones, and to stim as required. We will be running a ‘coloured badge’ system where participants will be invited to indicate their preference on initiating communication via coloured sticker. The room is accessed via lifts on either side of the corridor. Do let us know if there are any additional access requirements.
We ask that potential participants fill out this short form by 6th November as places in this initial workshop are limited; we will confirm your place and the agenda by email.
