Summary

This year, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Durham University is offering two tuition fee scholarships worth £10,000 each to students in Ghana and Pakistan applying for eligible postgraduate taught courses for 2025.

This scholarship scheme is part of the 'GREAT Scholarships 2025' campaign, which has been launched by the British Council together with 36 UK universities to support more students to access excellent UK higher education opportunities.

Year of Entry

This scholarship is available for programmes in academic year 2025/26.

Please note that this scholarship is not transferable and not deferrable. It is valid only for use by scholarship winners in the academic year for which the scholarship has been awarded. Acceptance of a scholarship before deferral does not guarantee a scholarship offer during the subsequent year of entry.

Eligibility

You can apply for a Durham University - GREAT Ghana Scholarship if you:

  • are a resident of Ghana, hold a Ghanaian passport, and
  • classed as an overseas student for fee purposes, self-financing, and
  • hold the equivalent of a first-class honours degree, and
  • hold an unconditional offer to start a full-time Taught Masters degree in September 2025

You can apply for a Durham University - GREAT Pakistan Scholarship if you:

  • are a resident of Pakistan, hold a Pakistani passport, and
  • classed as an overseas student for fee purposes, self-financing, and
  • hold the equivalent of a first-class honours degree, and
  • hold an unconditional offer to start a full-time Taught Masters degree in September 2025

How to apply

  1. Apply for a course before 4th March 2025 and receive an unconditional offer by 15th April 2025

    Please ensure you have submitted an academic application and provide all supporting documents (English language, academic transcripts etc. – correctly translated) to Durham University for one of the eligible programmes by midnight (GMT) 4th March 2025 via the postgraduate online application portal. If you have any issue with submitting any of the supporting documents by the indicated deadline, please contact us via international.scholarships@durham.ac.uk and we will do our best to support you.

     

    Important: When completing your online academic application form for your chosen  programme of study: In the section on Funding please answer 'Yes' to the question 'Have your either applied or are going to apply for a scholarship?’ Then select ‘GREAT scholarship’ from the drop-down menu. 

     

    The deadline to receive an unconditional offer OR meet all your offer conditions is 15th April 2025

  2. Complete a scholarship application form

    During the week commencing on 21st April, eligible candidates for the GREAT Scholarship who have received an unconditional offer of admission to study at Durham for 2024 will be invited via email to complete a GREAT Scholarship application form. All application forms must be submitted by midnight (GMT) 2nd May 2025.

    Please note: If you have not received an email invitation from us by this date, please assume you are not eligible for the scholarship.

     

  3. Scholarship Outcome

    The outcome of the GREAT Scholarship will be announced in June 2025, only successful candidates will be notified via email. Please assume your application is unsuccessful if you have not received the award email from us by this date.
