Durham University's Student Support Fund is intended to help students who are unable to meet their essential living and studying costs, and who have no other reasonable sources of income available to them.

The Fund awards Short-term Loans to students whose guaranteed income (e.g. Maintenance Loan from the Student Finance England or equivalent, or Research Council stipend payment) is delayed.

It also awards Grants of up to £8,810 to students who have a shortfall between the money available to them and their essential living and studying costs according to the Student Support Fund assessment procedure.

Overseas and postgraduate students must demonstrate that they had a sound financial plan in place before they started their studies, which was then compromised by unforeseen circumstances beyond their control, in order to receive help from the Fund.

The Fund is a discretionary fund.  This means that awards are made at the discretion of the University.  Awards are not guaranteed and should not be relied on as a source of funding by prospective students.

Prospective students cannot apply to the Student Support Fund.

Current students can apply here.
