How many languages can I study?

 Applicants studying one language can also study up to two different modules from anywhere else in the University subject to module availability, individual entry requirements and timetable compatibility. 

What languages are available to study?

Languages available to study through our Modern Languages & Cultures course are: 

  • Arabic (Beginner only) 
  • French (Beginner or Advanced) 
  • German (Beginner or Advanced) 
  • Italian (Beginner or Advanced) 
  • Russian (Beginner or Advanced) 
  • Spanish (Beginner or Advanced) 

Additional Rules

  • You must study at least one language at Advanced (i.e. post-A level or equivalent) level. This means you must be studying an A level (or equivalent) in a relevant language to study this course. 
  • You may only study a maximum of one language at Beginner level. 
  • If you’re a native speaker of a language, then you’ll be unable to study that language as part of this course. 

How do I submit my subject choices?

Once we’ve received your application, we’ll send you login details for the UG Applicant Portal. You’ll then be able to complete the form available in your portal with the languages you’d like to study. 

If you receive an offer from us, we’ll include any required subjects for your language choices in your offer to ensure you’ll be able to study these.
