Durham’s First Folio in its vandalised state, missing binding and with its first several leaves either missing or detached.

Most people will be familiar with the dramatic story of the theft of Durham’s First Folio in 1998 and its return to Durham University in 2010, two years after it first resurfaced in Washington D.C.

Our conservation team at Palace Green Library is in responsible of caring for the university’s historic collections alongside curators and archivists. In this talk, Conservators will address the difficult task of returning the Folio to its rightful position as an object of study and delight.

The talk will contextualise the Folio through an exploration of its historical background, and the effect that conservation decisions have on its future use.

Free and all welcome. Please book through Eventbrite or by calling Palace Green Library on 0191 334 2932.

This talk is part of the Thursday Twilight openings at Palace Green Library. Find out more about the museums and collections from across Durham University, including Archive and Special Collections, the Art Collection, Cosin's Library, Durham Castle Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, and the Oriental Museum.
