Maths and Comp Sci autumn winter 2025.jpg

Wondering why our wildflower meadows and No Mow May areas around campus have been cut while other areas have been left wild?

It’s all about biodiversity!

  • Cutting and removing the hay helps wildflowers compete with vigorous grasses.
  • Leaving some areas unmown creates valuable habitat for insects and small mammals.
  • More diverse habitats help support birds and other species.
  • Over time, removing the cuttings lowers soil nutrients, creating better conditions for species-rich grassland.
