Recruitment and Relocation

The Recruitment and Relocation Team is responsible for the attraction and recruitment functions, including the management of the annual academic recruitment campaign, engagement of executive and senior roles and campaigns for specialist and volume roles. The team also support the relocation of colleagues from across the world, including UKVI and immigration issues.

Business Partnering

The Business Partnering Team provides strategic HR advice to Executive Leads, Heads of Department, Heads of College and Managers. They provide professional, proactive and timely HR support, enabling managers to confidently lead on employee relations issues including discipline, grievance, ill health, performance management and change management. The team also provide general advice on employee relations issues to members of staff.

People and Pay

The Team provide administrative and generalist support and advice on all aspects of employment and working at Durham University, and are responsible for all transactional activities, such as contract changes, flexible engagements, and for delivering a complex payroll and pensions function.

Our mission is to ensure all activities, processes and transactions are accounted for accurately and employees of the University are paid in accordance with legislation.

Workforce Planning

The Workforce Planning Team provide support for the Oracle HR/Payroll system and other integrated systems, providing business intelligence, reporting and analytics to inform internal planning and projects, and for external agencies (such as HESA).

Occupational Health

Occupational Health is a specialist branch of medicine that focuses on the health and wellbeing of employees in the workplace, offering a range of services to the University, its employees and eligible students.

The occupational health team is multidisciplinary and includes: an occupational health specialist doctor, nurses, technician, physiotherapist and administrative personnel. The aim of the service is to keep staff well and at work by advising on work-related illnesses and accidents, carrying out assessments for new starters and existing employees, and monitoring the health of employees in line with relevant Health & Safety Legislation.

Health and wellbeing support and staff counselling are also available via the Employee Assistance Programme.

University Day Nursery

Durham University Day Nursery is a diverse community open to all, including University staff and students, and members of the public. Our nursery staff are caring, highly experienced and fully qualified professionals who work in partnership with parents. We provide high-quality childcare in a safe, secure and stimulating environment for up to 80 children from 6 weeks old to school age.
