Hatfield Bursaries

Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of Hatfield College, the Hatfield Trust funds Hatfield Bursaries to support new students from lower-income households to meet some of the core costs of college life.

Who is eligible for a Hatfield Bursary?

  • Eligible students are new full-time home undergraduate students at Hatfield College who started in 2019 or later
  • Full Hatfield Bursaries are awarded to new full-time home undergraduates at Hatfield College who do not already have an undergraduate degree and whose household income as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent) is less than £30,000
  • Part Hatfield Bursaries are awarded to new full-time home undergraduates at Hatfield College who do not already have an undergraduate degree and whose household income as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent) is between £30,000 and £47,200.

Hatfield Bursaries are non-repayable, and you do not have to apply for them. If your household income as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent) remains below £30,000, you will be eligible for further support from a Full Hatfield Bursary each year you are a registered student of the University (even if you're on a year abroad or on a placement year), up to a maximum of four years. Part Hatfield Bursaries are only awarded to students in their first year.

What is a Hatfield Bursary?

For eligible students, Hatfield Bursaries pay for the following one-off (except for ball tickets) costs, which cover the duration of your course:

Full Hatfield Bursaries

  • Junior Common Room (JCR) Levy
  • Hatfield Association membership
  • Hatfield Trust donation
  • Academic gown
  • Induction Week wristband
  • Ticket for Lion in Winter Ball at Hatfield College - one Entertainments ticket each year, and one ticket including Dining in either 3rd or 4th year of course
  • College gym membership

Part Hatfield Bursaries

  • Junior Common Room (JCR) Levy

How to Apply

You do not have to apply to receive your Hatfield Bursary. Eligibility will be based on household income as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent) as of 1st September. Provided that you and your parents/partner consented to share their household income with the University during the student finance application process, Student Finance England (or equivalent) will pass your household income to the University. Hatfield College will use this information to award your Hatfield Bursary.
