Disclosing Sexual Misconduct and Violence to the University

You can disclose an experience of sexual misconduct and violence to trained student support staff in your College or Department. They will listen without judgment, respect your experience, and explain the options available to you.

They will share information about appropriate support, including services provided by the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, specialist counselling, or exploring options where this is impacting your academic studies.

They’ll also help you to understand the reporting options, whether that’s reporting to the Police, reporting to the University (under the Sexual Misconduct and Violence Policy) or reporting to both.

The roadmap below guides you through what will happen if you disclosure an incident of sexual violence to the University.

Sexual Misconduct and Violence has no place in Durham. Your voice matters. You deserve to be heard, and you will be supported.
