Parkinsons is the fastest growing neurodegenerative disease. Parkinsons Pals (PP) established by Wolfson fellow Prof Paul Chazot four years ago is a unique undergraduate support group, first of its kind in the UK.

On the 6th June, Parkinson’s Pals teamed up with Durham University Women’s Cricket Club and Durham City Cricket Club to run a charity cricket match in aid of Parkinson’s UK and their Durham & Darlington support group. The PP group supports local people with Parkinson’s as well as their families by providing advice, friendship, and accessible exercise classes. Thanks to Ella Clinton for leading the PP group 2025-2026.

DUWCC and DCCC split into two mixed teams and played a fun T20 game. Not only did we see some great performances such as 50s from DCCC’s Sam and Zaina, but we also had walkout songs, a raffle, a bake sale, and interactive half-time competitions. Members of the crowd donated to take part in fielding challenges, with a free Café Nero coffee up for grabs!

It was a fantastic day with lots of supporters including students, community volunteers, university staff, and members of the Durham PUK support group. We raised £504, which will be split equally between Parkinson’s UK and their local support group to fund life-changing research and care.

Thanks to everyone that took part or helped behind the scenes - whether that be by donating, supporting, playing, or supplying prizes for the raffle. Your contributions really do make a difference.
