A Drosophila stock keeping service is available for Durham fly groups. Stocks are held in a constant temperature room at 18°C/60% RH, and maintained by a dedicated member of Facility staff. 

Upon incorporation into the central Durham collection, individual lab stocks are assigned a unique local ID, which appears on its label alongside the abbreviated genotype. A central registry, accessible to all researchers, contains full details of each line including the full genotype, origin and other associated information. 

Stocks are held in duplicate and are flipped on a 4 weekly schedule.  The health of each line is inspected during transfer, with low-fecundity lines being monitored closely and targeted intervention made if necessary. 

Colony maintenance is also provided daily for transgenic and wild-type mosquitoes, and weekly for the cabbage moth Mamestra brassicae.  Maintenance of other invertebrate lines can be accommodated when necessary.
