Vibrant student community

Both the Department of History and Durham University are a welcoming and vibrant place for students from all over the world. Although one of the largest History departments in the United Kingdom, with a correspondingly wide choice of modules, Durham prides itself on its ‘small department’ friendliness and sense of community. Most teaching is in small seminar groups, allowing students to get to know one another and their teachers.

As well as being a lively intellectual community, the Department provides social opportunities that bring together all its students and staff. These include the departmental History Society – run by Durham History students, the society organizes social events throughout the academic year.
