Old-School Counterpoint: How Bach’s Chorales Work
15 July 2026
The Music Department has published, on the department YouTube channel, a series of six educational videos, produced by Dr Ian Dickson and Dr Simone Tarsitani, on eighteenth-century European harmony, focusing on the Bach chorale. The big finish to Part 6 is a performance given by four talented Durham students.
The videos are intended as a revision resource for current Durham students but also as an open-access resource for anyone studying chorales and harmony (at A-Level, for example)—and for anyone who has not had the opportunity to do so but is interested. (In Durham Music Department it is not assumed that new students have studied chorales.)
You can watch the videos on the department's YouTube playlist, here.
