Rod Taylor Futures Scholarship

The Rod Taylor Futures Scholarship will provide a one-off scholarship to local and underrepresented students in need of financial assistance. This scholarship is available thanks to a very generous donation by the family of Rod Taylor and will enable Durham University to award six students £2000.

This Scholarship complements the existing work that the University is undertaking to attract talented and underrepresented students from the North East to study at Durham.

Amount £2,000 for one academic year which contributes to:
  • living costs
  • other associated costs of study

Eligibility

You are eligible for this scholarship if:

  • you are commencing your studies in the Faculty of Science in October 2024 (this includes if you will be commencing your Foundation Year); and
  • your official fee status is Home student; and
  • you have a household income level below £47,200 as assessed by Student Finance England; and
  • you have been educated at a state-maintained UK school, college or other education provider for the whole of your education; and
  • you are a resident in North East of England, at the point of submitting an academic application through UCAS for a place at Durham University, residing in one of the following postcode regions: CA, DH, DL, NE, SR or TS.

Priority will given to applicants who also meet the following criteria:

  • you are a Widening Participation programme participant (inc. Rod Taylor Futures, Levelling Up: Aspire Higher, Supported Progression, STEP and Sutton Trust); or
  • you are a first generation scholar.

  1. Complete a scholarship application

    Submit a scholarship application by 10th September 2024 including a personal statement describing:

    • your financial circumstances
    • how the Rod Taylor Scholarship would help you to study at Durham University
    • why you want to study at Durham University
    • how would you contribute to University life?

  2. Confirm your funding

    Please provide a copy of your Student Finance England confirmation of funding letter once received to rodtaylor.futures@durham.ac.uk with the subject line 'Rod Taylor Futures Scholarship 2024'.

    All eligible applications will be considered on the basis of their personal statements, academic status and financial situation.
