On 17–18 September 2026, the IMH was delighted to welcome members of our international Advisory Board to Durham for our annual meeting.
Over the two days, we explored the development of the medical humanities field internationally, how IMH is positioned within it, and how we can continue to work effectively with global partners. Thank you to our Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Sarah Hainsworth and our Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health) Charlotte Clark for joining us for a discussion of the role of University Research Institutes at Durham and IMH’s contribution to the University’s wider health strategy.
The meeting also created space for lively, engaged conversation about the visions our Discovery Research Platform Labs and Sites have for their work ahead.
In addition to the Advisory Board Meeting, an event for all IMH Fellows on 17 September to mark the beginning of the academic year featured presentations from Katrin Wehling-Giorgi on “Maternal Legacies: Epigenetics and the Literature of Transgenerational Trauma,” Jesse Proudfoot (Sociology) on “The Practice” site of the Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities, and Louise Creechan on the development of Critical Neurodiversity Studies in and beyond Durham
We are grateful for the ongoing support and guidance of our Advisory Board and look forward to a series of meetings next year.
What is the IMH Advisory Board?
The Advisory Board is a group of critical friends representing a range of disciplines, sectors and international institutions, who provide insights and advice on IMH activities and strategy. Members include Hannah Bradby, Nick Barley, Des Fitzgerald, Akiko Hart, Sarah Hughes, Ericka Johnson, Wajid Khan, Laurie McGuire, Jonathan Metzl and Carla Tsampiras.
