We are recruiting for a Lecturer in Medical Humanities to help us develop and deliver this new programme. The post is Grade 7: £34,304 - £36,382 per annum and full time for 36 months. Apply on the Durham University Job Vacancies Site by 5 January 2022.

  • Are you passionate about interdisciplinary health research?
  • Could you help us inspire the next generation of medical humanities students?
  • Do you have the skills and experience to deliver outstanding online learning?

Durham University’s Institute for Medical Humanities (IMH) is launching a new MA in Medical Humanities (first intake Autumn 2022) and we are looking for a talented educator to help us develop and deliver this new programme. The MA will have both online and in-person pathways, deliver modules drawn from seven contributing departments, and be available to full-time and part-time students. This ground-breaking course will create a dynamic learning environment in which students will connect to the wider medical humanities community at Durham, regionally and internationally.

Our new Lecturer in Medical Humanities will play a leading role in the delivery of the new MA, including convening the core online modules, ongoing curriculum development, liaison between contributing Departments and academics, and the provision of academic support to students. Experience of online and distance teaching and learning, ideally with postgraduates, is essential. We welcome applications from those with interests in the broad field of critical medical humanities, preferably with a multi- or interdisciplinary approach.

As well as being part of the IMH, the successful applicant will have a departmental affiliation to either Anthropology, Geography, English Studies, Philosophy, or Theology and Religious Studies.

The successful candidate must be able to join IMH well before the new MA commences, ideally on or soon after 1 March 2022. This post is for 36 months from the date of appointment and any extension is dependent on the success of the new MA programme.

Informal enquiries can be directed to IMH Acting Director Prof Angela Woods on angela.woods@durham.ac.uk
