Join us for a family-friendly event where you can:

  • Dress Like a Conservator - Find out what conservators wear while working with museum collections. Try on lab coats and personal protective equipment (PPE), including latex-free gloves and safety goggles, and learn how these items help protect both people and objects.
  • Colouring and Activity Sheets - Get creative with a selection of colouring pages and activity sheets inspired by museum collections and conservation work.
  • Museum Pest Detectives - Become a museum pest detective and learn about the insects that can damage museum collections. Discover where pests like to hide, what materials they are attracted to, and take part in an interactive hide-and-seek challenge.
  • What Is It Made From? - Explore the raw materials used to make museum objects and examine them up close under a microscope. Can you match each material to the correct artefact on our illustrated display?
  • Repairing Damaged Objects - Test your conservation skills by reconstructing broken plates and bowls using tape, completing Velcro pot jigsaw puzzles, and tackling related colouring and problem-solving activities.
  • Museum Artefact Hunt - Follow clues and investigate objects throughout the museum to solve questions and uncover hidden details. This activity encourages close observation and detective-like thinking.
  • Before and After Conservation - See the difference conservation can make. Compare objects before and after treatment using interactive lift-the-flap displays and discover the techniques used to repair and stabilise museum collections.

All activities are free and available throughout the event. Suitable for families, children and anyone curious about how museums care for their collections.
