Immerse yourself in the history of Durham by taking part into a guided tour around the World Heritage Site.

Discover why Durham is such an important city, hear local tales and stories from the last 1000 years and find out more about the buildings on Palace Green and the wider peninsula. Our knowledgeable guide will take you on a walking tour starting from Palace Green, in the heart of Durham, and down to the historical Bailey and the Durham riverbanks. Come and discover what makes the Durham World Heritage so special.

Tour details:

You must check in at Palace Green Library reception (located on the green, between the Castle and the cathedral) before your tour.

The tour route will take visitors around Palace Green, down the Bailey to Prebends Bridge and up to the back of Durham Cathedral.

Two tours run on the day, at 12pm and 2pm

Duration approx. 1 hour.

The tour will be running in all weather conditions.

Maximum capacity 20 people.

Accessibility:

The tour takes place entirely outside. Visitors will encounter some steep inclines and uneven surfaces. Resting stool are available to borrow from Palace Green Library reception at the time of booking.
