The Genomics Facility provides access to our undergraduate and postgraduate students, alongside our academic and technical staff here at Durham. Additionally, we welcome enquiries from the wider scientific community interested in collaborating or utilising the infrastructure.
The Genomics Facility hosts a small group of final year, undergraduate students each year. Gaining valuable practical experience, our students spend five weeks working on an individual research technology project. They learn how to extract and process DNA samples from various sources, before constructing NGS libraries, and running their samples on our MiSeq Sequencer. They complete their project by performing bioinformatic analysis on the data produced and presenting their findings.
The Genomics Facility enables a broad portfolio of research activities spanning numerous disciplines. Our infrastructure supports multiple UKRI-funded projects, including BBSRC, MRC, Welcome Trust, EU Horizon and NERC funded research programmes. Recent outputs include publications in Science Advances, The Plant Cell, Molecular Ecology, Global Change Biology, Nucleic Acids Research and eLife.
