The Department of Classics and Ancient History will hold a memorial lecture in honour of Professor P. J. Rhodes on Friday 9th September, 5.30-6.30pm in PG 20 in the Pemberton Rooms on Palace Green.

The speaker will be Professor Robin Osborne of Cambridge, with a talk entitled “‘Do Institutions Matter? The case of Classical Athens”, followed by a drinks reception at the Prior’s Hall in the Cathedral. 

There will also be a dinner in Hotel Indigo, from 8.30pm – places are limited, so please register for this ASAP. All are welcome, and those planning to attend the reception and/ or the dinner should please email classics.opsadmin@durham.ac.uk to confirm.

There will also be a day of celebrations of Classics in the North East in Durham the day after this, Saturday 10th September from 11-2 (venue TBC) – entitled “A celebration of Classics in the North East” including a guest speaker and information about the new Hadrian’s Wall Branch of the Classical Association, Durham’s new Classics PGCE, and the move of ACE (Advocating Classics Education) to the Department here at Durham University.
