Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) is a process which recognises applicants’ previous work experience or study, and allows it to count towards their Common Awards Programme. 

APL is an umbrella term for two processes: 

• the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL), which recognises learning gained though previous academic study which has been formally recognised and recorded in a Higher Education context, and 
• the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), which recognises other kinds of learning, including learning gained outside of the classroom and through practical experience. 

Theological Education Institutions (TEIs) are responsible for all direct communications with individuals who wish to claim APL.
