Peking-Durham Joint Seminar

Abstract

This seminar examines how European higher education institutions are responding to a changing international environment characterised by growing competition, shifting patterns of internationalisation and increasing concerns over research security.
The speakers will present their latest research on two related dimensions of these developments: the strategic positioning of young European universities and the emerging policy tensions between international collaboration and research security in Europe.

By bringing together institutional and policy perspectives, the seminar will explore how universities navigate pressures for convergence and differentiation while responding to changing expectations surrounding international engagement. It will feature a critical discussion of how competitive positioning, internationalisation and research security are reshaping the strategic choices available to universities and the wider conditions under which European higher education operates.
