Botanic Garden Summer Fun Day - Sunday 16 June

Join us in the Botanic Garden on Sunday 16 June, to celebrate Summer with a full day of fun and a host of activities for all the family! There will be loads going on all around the Garden from 10am - 4.30pm.

Face painting, storytelling and crafting

Choose from a range of colourful designs from our face painting artist then settle down to listen to our storytelling or take part in a crafting session at the Monkey Puzzle Lawn.

Honey Man and Sustainability Guru

Local beekeeper George Soppitt will bring his honey and expertise to the Monkey Puzzle Lawn and Durham University's Senior Energy Manager Tom Bray will offer advice about sustainability.

Music in the Garden

You will be able to enjoy music from Pittington Brass Band who will be playing at the Lawn by the Visitor Centre of the Garden on the afternoon.

You can also enjoy performances from the Mandolin Orchestra as they perform at the Lawn by the Visitor Centre on the morning.

Our café will be open all day, serving fresh food and refreshments. Relax in the café or outside on the terrace, with a lovely view of the Garden.

Friends of the Garden will be offering a wide selection of plants and seeds available to buy at a plant sale on the Greenhouse Lawn.

Conservation charity Plant Heritage will be there and the Teesside branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society will be selling cacti and succulents.

Alice Dalí augmented reality experience

Alice Dalí AR is a new augmented reality experience combining paintings by Salvador Dalí with passages from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and a magical soundtrack. Families can seek out music-art experiences around the Botanic Garden via a navigation game app. Download the free app here.

Biodiversity in Durham with Bio-Blitz

Bio-Blitz Student Volunteers will be showcasing nature-themed activities such as pond dipping, butterfly and wildflower walks and moth trapping to show the diversity of plants and animals that live in the Garden.

Our 10 hectare Botanic Garden is set amongst beautiful mature woodlands on the southern outskirts of Durham City. Open to the public, the Botanic Garden offers a wide variety of landscapes to explore and discover, with guests of all ages visiting throughout the year.
