Union Black - Britain's Black Cultures and steps to anti-racism

 

Durham University is delighted to support the launch of Union Black - Britains Black Cultures and steps to anti-racism, a free online education programme for students and staff members within UK universities, designed to drive cultural change accross the Higher Education sector.

Developed by Santander UK Universities in partnership with The Open University and Future Learn, the programme responds to Universities UK's "Takling racial harassment in higher education" report and provide learners with an understanding of the origins and experience of Black British history, race, and culture, and how individuals can make a positive difference.

Course Content

The course is broken up into three sections each lasting 2 hours:

  • The origins of the black story
  • Anti-racism and intersectionality
  • Understanding your own biases

The course is freely available to all UK Universities for the next free years and consists of 6 hours of content through a mixture of online learning content, discussion and interactive activities, completed in the learners own time.

Students who complete the course will be in with the chance of being awarded one of 50 Santander development grants of £500 each (Ts&Cs apply) and invited to take part in a live thought leadership event with high-profile ambassadors. All learners will also recieve a digital certificate upon completion.
