We are delighted to inform alumni and friends that Trevelyan College won the Global College Award at this year’s Durham University Global Awards in recognition of our commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment and development of initiatives to support international students.
At Trevelyan College, we encourage students to ‘explore without limits’, promoting an environment of inclusivity, support, and respect for all. We embrace and celebrate diversity, embedding global initiatives across our wider student experience. In 2023, the SCR launched the Global Dynamics lecture series, starting with six talks on China’s place in the world by world-leading experts from the Universities of Oxford, Warwick, Durham, Naples L’Orientale, London School of Economics, and 3Sixty Strategic Advisors Ltd. The JCR hosts monthly language cafés, and international music events, which are open to all. Last year, we launched a weekly conversational English group. In Michaelmas Term, we welcomed over 200 students to our first Global Formal Dinner featuring Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Mexican-inspired cuisine, with traditional dress encouraged. We also hosted our first Interfaith Cafés in 2023, including student and staff representatives from across the university, to promote interfaith discussions. Our global activities have a significant impact, supporting our aspirations as a respectful, inclusive, and interdisciplinary community of students, staff, and local community members.
The Global College Award is a significant achievement and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff, alumni and SCR members for their many contributions to our global community.
On 5-7 July 2024, we were delighted to welcome alumni and friends back to Trevelyan College for a reunion weekend. Alumni were able to stay in college accommodation for the weekend.
On Friday evening, we enjoyed a hot fork buffet in the Dining Hall and guests had the opportunity to participate in a quiz in the College Bar. On Saturday afternoon we enjoyed afternoon tea in the College bar and quad, and discussed plans for the future. On Saturday evening, we came together for the Reunion Dinner, which included a drinks reception in the Cobbles, a three course dinner, tea, coffee, and mints, in the Dining Hall. These events provided a great opportunity for our alumni community to reunite, share their fond memories of Trevelyan College and listen to their journeys after graduation.
We were delighted to invite alumni and friends to join us for our next informal London After Hours event at The Counting House, EC3, 50 Cornhill, London, EC3V 3PD on Tuesday 5 March 2024 from 6-8 pm.
The event was hosted by the Principal, Professor Adekunle Adeyeye, and Vice-Principal, Dr Martin Brader, and provided an opportunity to hear about recent developments at Trevelyan College, reconnect with fellow alumni, and discuss our plans for the College’s 60th Anniversary in 2026.
Thank you to all who came.
On 7-9 July, we were delighted to welcome alumni and friends back to Trevelyan College for our first annual reunion weekend since the Covid-19 pandemic. Alumni were able to stay in our newly renovated accommodation in A Block, and join us for afternoon tea and the reunion dinner.
On Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed afternoon tea in the College bar, which was relocated from the Quad due to the rain! Later on Saturday, we gathered for the Annual Reunion Dinner, which included a drinks reception in the Cobbles and a three course meal in the Dining Hall. Both events provided a great opportunity to hear about our student experience from former students, their career journeys after graduation, and their memories of Trevelyan College.
The Reunion Weekend forms part of our relaunched alumni activities, following two London alumni events earlier this year. We hope to continue this series of regular alumni gatherings which provide a great opportunity to connect with fellow alumni, hear updates from the College, and share your memories of our community. We are looking forward to our next events later this year – more information will be circulated to alumni in due course.
