Middle Common Room (MCR)

Stephenson Middle Common Room is a thriving, diverse and supportive postgraduate community, run by an elected group of students dedicated to making your time at Stephenson College an enjoyable and enriching experience. The MCR organises dedicated events and social activities for postgraduate members of the College, works collaboratively with the JCR to support the development of sports clubs and societies in College and represents postgraduate students' views to the College and wider University.

MCR Conference Lunch

Membership of our MCR will unlock a whole range of events and opportunities which will enrich your Durham experience such as: 

  • Social events including brunch;
  • Trips & tours across the North East of England;
  • Academic events including the MCR Seminars and the annual Astonish the World conference, which all are welcome to deliver or simply attend;
  • Welfare support and supplies from our dedicated MCR Welfare Officer;
  • A vote in MCR elections and eligibility to run for Executive and Non-Executive officer positions, allowing you to gain excellent CV experience;
  • Access to the MCR Facebook group to hear the latest from the common room and network with other MCR members.

There is no better way to meet so many Masters and PhD students than by joining the Stephenson Middle Common Room. We are very proud as MCR members to call Stephenson our home and hope you make this fantastic community an integral part of your collegiate University experience.
