Sport

Sport is one of the great unifiers at Stephenson bringing people together with shared interests and developing leadership, teamwork and friendship. There are many sports teams ranging from netball to rowing, ultimate frisbee to hockey. College sport is an opportunity to get involved, meet other people and try something new. There are 37 teams at Stephenson College so students have the opportunity to play competitively in inter-collegiate leagues or just for fitness and fun. The best thing is that there’s a place for everyone.

2023/2024 was a brilliant year for our sports clubs at Stephenson, including the following key achievements:

  • Stephenson Mixed Lacrosse team reached the finals of the Mixed Lacrosse Trophy Cup;
  • Stephenson Men's Football A team won the Football Cup;
  • Stephenson Men's Rugby Team won the Floodlit Plate;
  • Stephenson Volleyball A team also topped the College Premiership Division and alongside our Futsal team represented Durham in the varsity against Loughborough.
  • Phoenix Cheer held onto their titles at this year's Intercollegiate Cheer Competition. They have been All Girl Main Routine Champs and All Girl Stunt Group Champs in 2022, 2023 and now 2024, as well as regaining the Pom Champions title this year.

Societies

One of the things that makes Stephenson such a great place is that there’s simply so much to get involved with. We have a wide range of societies including:

  • Stephenson Grow Society
  • Stephenson Quiz Society
  • Formula 1 Society
  • Feminist Society
  • Law Society
  • Politics Society
  • Debating Society
  • LGBTQ+ Society
  • Christian Union
  • Book Club

All our societies meet regularly throughout the year and provide a great place to meet people with similar interests, or to pick up a new skill.
